The Prairie du Chien Area Chamber of Commerce is pleased to provide this information about the Prairie du Chien Wisconsin area and its businesses. Prairie du Chien is located just above the confluence of the Mississippi and Wisconsin Rivers, and is the oldest European settlement on the Upper Mississippi River. Our history dates back to the 17th century with many sites preserved and open to visitors.

Prairie du Chien is located 62 miles south of La Crosse, Wisconsin, 62 miles north of Dubuque, Iowa, and 103 miles west of Madison, Wisconsin.
The Prairie du Chien area generally receives ample moisture throughout the year, with warm rains in spring and summer and moderate snowfall in the colder months. Normal annual precipitation is about 33 inches, 62 percent of which falls from May to September. Mean temperatures vary from 75 degrees Fahrenheit in July to 21 degrees in January.
