May 13-Aug 6: Villa Louis Present: Wisconsin Women of Style-The Victorian Wedding. This clothing exhibit showcases the garments and gowns of Victorian weddings from the collections of the Wisconsin Historical Society in various rooms of the Villa Louis Mansion. Each garment will be an appropriate example of what Mrs. Dousman and daughters would have worn. The exhibition tells the story of both the dresses, rarely displayed due to their fragile nature, and the women who wore them. This tour presents a more in-depth look at the Dousman family and their home and gives a glimpse into the day-to-day inner workings of this restored Victorian mansion. Each round of behind-the-scene tours features the care and keeping of a different object from the Dousman family collection. This event will feature lamplight tours of Villa Louis and its grounds, an authentic Victorian wake in the parlor, and plenty of "spirits" around to tell tales of the weird and mysterious from the era of the fur trade through the time of the Dousmans.
